The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over two the officers implicated in a viral video showing maltreatment of individuals.
In a media briefing held at the Seme-Krake Border Command, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Kayode Kolade who was represented by Deputy Comptroller Istifanus Musa, confirmed the arrest of Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo. The officers have been handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation.
Preliminary findings identified the officers as the individuals involved in the incident, which the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, had already condemned in strong terms. He directed their transfer to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja for a comprehensive investigation and disciplinary action.
“This behavior does not reflect the professional standards and values of the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly as we are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” Comptroller Kolade stated.
The NCS also urged the complainants in the viral video to cooperate with the investigation to ensure that justice is served.
Reiterating its commitment to transparency, the Service emphasized that it would not tolerate any misconduct within its ranks. “We remain resolute in working for the overall interest of the Nigerian public and ensuring that all officers adhere to ethical practices,” Kolade added.
