Customs Patrol Team Seizes Weapons, Cannabis, PMS, Others Worth N327 Million

The Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 2 of the Nigeria Customs Service, has recorded several seizure, including one dane gun, a live cartridge, 3,580 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa.

According, to the Coordinator of the Team, Comptroller MN Usman, the seizures were made from the 12th of April to the 26th of May, 2023.

He said the seized goods were made possible by the operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, other sister security agencies like the Army, Navy, Immigration, the Police Force, State Security Service and the National Intelligence Agency which formed the JBPT.

He said within a month, a total of 11,419 items with Duty Paid Value of about N327Million

and auction value at about N6, 789 were recorded.

Further speaking, Usman added that seizures deposited at Ogun II Command Abeokuta include: 2,338 bags of 50kg parboiled foreign rice, 723 (301itres) Plastic kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 61 pieces of used tyres, 17 vehicles used as means of conveyances, 1 motorcycle, 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, 14 sacks of New Leather bags and 8 bales of SSecond-hand clothings.

At the Ogun 1 Command, Idiroko, deposited seized items are:2,064 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice,

814 (30 litres) Plastic kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 18 vehicles used as means of conveyance and 3 imported used cars while the Lagos, Oyo/Osun and Seme Government Warehouses, have 433 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 694(30 litres) Plastic kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 4 vehicles used as means of conveyances and 2 imported used cars,151 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 1 Dane Gun and 1 Live Cartridge, 897 bags of 50 kg imported foreign parboiled rice, 1,349 (301itres) Plastic kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 7 cars used as means of conveyances.

“These seizures violate Schedule 3 of the Common External Tariffs on imports prohibition list. They were also made possible by the use of technology and intelligence gathering.” He stated.

According to him, two suspects are currently being interrogated by the team, in connection with gun running and rice smuggling in the Southwest Zone.
