The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized smuggled goods worth N51.9 million in three weeks operations within Adamawa and Taraba Area Command.
Comptroller in charge of the command, MrGarba Bashir, made this known at a news conference on Wednesday in Yola.
Bashir also said that the command had generated N173.6 million in 2024.
“Despite the official closure of borders, the Command generated N173.6 million in revenue for 2024, exceeding its N132 million target by 23.97 per cent.
“This revenue is generated from the direct auction sales of seized Items in accordance with section 119 of the NCS Act, 2023,” the comptroller said.
Bashir attributed the command’s success to intelligence-driven enforcement and collaboration with other security agencies.
“The confiscated goods include: 29,825 litres of PMS (petrol), packed in 1,149 jerry cans and four drums (220 litres each), intended for illegal export.
“Three vehicles and a motorcycle, used for smuggling, including a car with a hidden PMS compartment.
“Others are 11 bales of second-hand clothing, banned under Nigerian trade regulations.
“Methylene Chloride “Suck and Die” eight drums (200 litres each) and 35 jerry cans (25 litres each),” he said.
Bashir noted that the intercepted PMS would be auctioned immediately due to its inflammable nature, in line with standard procedures.
The comptroller commended the NCS leadership uunder the Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi and other security agencies for their support in the fight against smuggling.
He assured that the command remained resolute in dismantling smuggling networks and protecting Nigeria’s economic interests.
“We urge patriotic Nigerians, oil marketers, and the press to join hands with us in the fight against smuggling.
“Together, we will curb this economic menace,” the comptroller said.
Bashir reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security, while urging continued public support.
