The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has described the auto policy of the Federal Government as a scam created only to enrich few individuals in the country.
In a statement made available to our correspondent on Friday, the acting National President of the association, Dr. Kayode Farinto while felicitating with the Muslim faithfuls on the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir, stated that the age limit on imported vehicles needs to be reviewed to at least 15 years from the current 12 years, even as he added that the entire auto policy is a scam that has continued to enrich few individuals in the country to the detriment of the nation’s economy.
He lamented that the policy has not affected the manufacturing companies, saying, “they are unable to produce ordinary radiator, meanwhile few are smiling homes with our money under the guise of being local assemblers and manufacturers; it is high time we revised this policy”.
Speaking further, Farinto lampooned the Federal government for inconsistent policy in the maritime sector, he said there is need to have consistent policy, while describing the recent appointment of a new Minister of Transportation as trial by error by the government.
He said, “Just when we thought there is relief in the transportation ministry, the government decided to change the minister and bring a new person that will start learning and commence visitation in the next three months, we are stagnant and not really moving forward with this retrogressive steps every time and it is encouraging Neocolonialism”.
Farinto also urged the Federal Government in line with international best practices to re-orientate the management of Nigeria Customs service (NCS) describing the present NCS as moribund.

He stated that the present NCS has continuously brought confusion to the trading community with high handedness.
Farinto further hit at the Ministry of Finance, which he said has lost its supervisory role alleging that this has led to the high level of non-professionalism in the nation’s maritime sector.
The acting President of ANLCA also urged its members to increase the level of compliance to show patriotism to the nation building.
He also charged the Council for the Regulations of Freight forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to brace up to its responsibilities by giving qualitative leadership and increase capacity building for freight forwarders. He also lamented that foreigners are gradually taking over the freight forwarding business in the country.
He said: “It is rather unfortunate that ANLCA has been shouting for a very long time that foreigners are gradually taking over our profession. but up till now, there seems to be no solution in sight to nip this in the bud”.
