The Federal Government has approved a salary increase for the staff members of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, said this over the weekend at the long service award organised by the management of the NPA.
Sambo commended the management of the agency for their commitment to staff welfare.
The Minister also commended the Managing- Director, NPA, Mohammad Bello-Koko, for what he described as his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance
He said, “In my median visit to the NPA upon resumption of office, as minister of transportation I was commending the NPA MD, for his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance, he has solicited my backing and support to fast track the processes and procedures for the implementation of salary increase which I immediately acceded to and today I am delighted that it has been achieved.”
The Minister further congratulated awardees and the entire workers of the NPA for their teamwork and contributions to the successes being recorded.
He said; “Let me pledge to you all that the Ministry under my watch will continue to provide unflinching support for all initiatives of the Authority’s management geared towards the promotion of staff welfare.
“As someone that loves to identify with human virtues, I was highly elated when I received the invitation from the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority to be part of this noble effort.
“Today, we celebrate employees who have dedicated twenty years of their lives to the service of Nigeria through the Authority for twenty years and those in the merit category who have accomplished exceptional feats through uncommon dutifulness,” he said.
He added that the celebration demonstrates that the Managing Director and his team understand that organizations that want to create and sustain superior performance must put people first.
While commending the recipients of the long service merit award, he noted that open commendation of dedicated workers has a vast bearing on organizational growth.
Sambo also commended the management of the NPA for its commitment to staff welfare.
“I would like to commend the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority for its commitment to staff welfare and the organizers for putting together this event. Thank you,” he said.
Sambo while appreciating the awardees, said that their contributions to service are signs that they are passionate and dedicated to the progress of NPA.
“Dear awardees, your contributions are nothing less than a mark of passion, perseverance and dedication.
“We are very proud to have such loyal and committed people representing the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Federal Ministry of Transportation and by extension the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Speaking also, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha noted that the testimonies of the present government would not have been complete without recognition of the inputs of the NPA staff.
He said “It is a great honour to be invited to grace this historic occasion of those who have dedicated two decades of their lifetime to the service of their fatherland through the NPA and those who have taken excellence a much higher, through exceptional feat and superlative performance in the merit category,
“I want to therefore cease this moment to congratulate the board and management of the NPA for sustaining this high impact culture of open recognition, commendation and reward of excellence. Commendation and rewards means a lot when they are publicly communicated.
“I would like to say a big congratulations to the employees being recognised today, while I encourage all other staff to aspire to similar recognition and reward.
“I employ you the awardees not to rest on your oars because the maritime sector which you operate is very crucial to Nigeria maximization of very enviable comparative advantages.
The testimonies of the enormous achievements of the present government would not have been complete without recognition of your inputs” he said
Speaking earlier the Managing Director of NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko, commend the minister of Transportation for his unflinching support towards the delivery of salary increment for the staff of the NPA.
He also thanked the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for keeping faith with the union throughout the daunting process of seeking for the approval.
He added that equipping the human resource asset of the NPA to be the best in the agency is the overriding objectives of his management while assuring that the authority will remain unwavering to the noble cause.
