The Federal Government has given the International Oil Companies (IOCs) May 8th, 2023 deadline to comply with the full operationalization of its appointed stevedores.
The deadline was given at the recent meeting held between the IOCs, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and other relevant shareholders with the Minister of Transportation, Muazu Jaji Sambo.
The MWUN in a press statement made available to our correspondent by its Media Officer; Comrade Kennedy Ikemefuna, said the meeting was called by the Minister of Transportation Muazu Jaji Sambo to settle the lingering disputes between the IOCs and the government- appointed stevedoring companies.
The statement also hinted that the government has indicated interest in embarking on an on-the-spot-assessment of all jetties and International Oil Companies (IOCs) facilities across the country from May 8th, 2023.
The union further informed that the President of the Stevedoring Association of Nigeria has been mandated to work on continuous capacity building for its members for a sustainable port and terminal operations.
The statement added that “these resolutions were taken by all the stakeholders in attendance with very strong conviction that these resolutions as aforementioned will be implemented to the letters as raised and signed” .
