Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba has emphasized that strict compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is essential to enhancing Nigeria’s participation in global trade.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the General Conference on Maritime Security organized by the ISPS Unit of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Lagos, AIG Garba said Nigeria’s economic future is closely tied to the security and compliance standards at its ports.
With the theme “Maritime Security: A Collaborative Approach to Enhancing Nigeria’s Blue Economy,” the conference brought together stakeholders to assess the implementation of the ISPS Code and identify areas for improvement.
AIG Garba commended the ISPS Unit for creating a platform for dialogue and strategic partnership, stressing that full ISPS compliance would position Nigeria as a preferred destination for international shipping and investment.
He noted that greater maritime security would lead to increased maritime traffic, stimulate economic growth, and create new opportunities across the sector. He also pledged the continued support of the Maritime Police Command in working alongside all stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria’s ports and inland waterways.
