The company is designed to help supply Nigeria’s natural gas from the oil fields in the Niger Delta to some West African countries.

WAGPCO, a joint venture between public and private sector companies from Nigeria, has regional field offices in Badagry, Cotonou, Lome, Tema and Takoradi, both in Ghana.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the facility was shut down on Aug. 28, 2012 following “unusual loss of pressure around Lome segment'' of the pipeline.
According to Wereko-Brobby, the company lost about 70 million dollars in revenue due to the Aug. 28 damage to the pipeline which occurred when one of its vessels tried to escape a shoot-out between the navy and a third party vessel in Lome Port.
“If all things go well, by April 30 gas should start flowing.
“The damaged pipeline is receiving intensive repairs and it is being tested to make it leakage-proof.’’
Wereko-Brobby said the company had put in place stringent measures to ensure the safety of its gas pipeline from Nigeria to Ghana.
She said naval personnel from the four countries, shipping companies and stakeholders, were being educated on the need to protect the pipelines during their operations at sea.
The spokeswoman also said the company was planning to enter into an agreement with Nigerian Navy towards effective policing of the pipelines.
“The company has adopted the Environmental Impact Assessment plan to free the environment of pollution.
“WAGPCO poured its first free gas in small quantity from Nigeria through Benin, Togo to Ghana's two port cities — Tema and Takoradi in Dec. 2008.
“It, however, ran into hitches and was halted. We resumed commercial operations through the compressors in 2011.’’
