John Holt Plc in collaboration with the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) has commissioned a state-of-the-art Almarine 42 Water Bus (A42WB), a 40-seater boat of the latest technology which is the first to be built by a Nigerian company.
At the commissioning ceremony in Lagos, executive director of services of the PPMC, Dr. Adeyeye Fagbure, representing the managing director of PPMC, Prince Haruna Momoh, commended the innovative capacity of John Holt in their entire business endeavor, most especially in boat building with new technology.
"The boat is a unique one; it is very good and suitable for our operations; if not for the boat, we would have had no choice, but to continue to charter boats to carry out our operations and when you charter boats you cannot really control the operations but since the boat belongs to us and it is being operated for us on our behalf by John Holt, we now have full control of our operations, so we believe our staff will benefit tremendously from the facility" he stated.
He said "by collaborating with them, we are only going ahead to obey the dictate of the federal government on local content law."
In his remarks, the operations manager of John Holt marine leasing, Mr. Ogedengbe
George said, “what we are witnessing today is just John Holt's humble effort at helping to actualize the Nigerian local content development Act”
"The boat is built in Nigeria by Nigerians -100 per cent local content, the manpower for the building and development of the boat was 100 per cent by Nigerians" On technical partnership, Ogedegbe said though they have a relationship in form of a technical agreement with Yamaha as could be seen in the Yamaha outboard engine we use, but the installation and operation was 100 per cent by Nigerians.
Emphasizing John Holt's commitment to the promotion of Nigerian local content, he said all the three aspects of boat building technology were handled by three different divisions of John Holt. The Almarine division handled the building; Yamaco handled the engineering, accessories and installations; while John Holt Leasing handled the management and operations.
