Just Like Yesterday

How time flies. When the idea was forming in our   mind and the seed was being sown, we prayed that Shipping Position Weekly shall be a successful newspaper and that, in no time; it shall be the reference point. Our prayers have been answered.
Within just 12 months and with just 51 editions to our credit, we have been able to prove that the maritime industry can indeed have a well-respected, sector-based publication. We have also been able to showcase the talent that God has given us as members of the team, which week in and week out effortlessly publish Shipping Position Weekly to the commendation of all.
This week, we proudly reminiscence on the events which played out prior to those days, that is, immediately before  the 29th day of October, 2007 and we become more convinced that we have indeed come to stay as a respected member of the shipping community.
We have clocked one year as a maritime industry newspaper, we have garnered respect and commendation from stakeholders and professional colleagues by dint of hard work, commitment to professionalism and more importantly, by the grace of the Almighty.
This week marks a fulfilment for all of us in First Mediacon Network Limited and indeed, for Shipping Position Weekly. We envisioned a standard and thoroughly professional newspaper, we envisioned the birth of Contemporary issues in the maritime industry (which is being unveiled this week) as a bye- product of Shipping Position Weekly and we envisioned a public presentation of Shipping Position Weekly. All of these have come to be.
In the last one year, we have broken several stories, created value-adding columns and in the process, won the admiration of many.
As we mark our 365 days as a newspaper, not many people easily remember our tortuous journey to the present, but we do remember every bit of it. Our determination to succeed; backed by the grace of the Almighty saw us through those Golgotha moments when our sister product – Shipping Position Live on Star FM almost died; were it not for His grace.
There may not have been Contemporary issues in the maritime industry without Shipping Position Weekly newspaper. There may not have been Shipping Position Weekly without Shipping Position Live on Star FM, 101.5. There certainly would not have been Shipping Position Live without that ‘push to destiny’. It was Williams Shakespeare who wrote in the classic Macbeth that “there is no art to find the mind’s construction in the face……” How right he was, yes, how deeply right!.  We accept full responsibility for any lapses (especially, production wise) which may have occurred in these past 12 months. We promise to improve. And if there is any contention in our editorial bent, we equally accept full responsibility. Thank you all. Catch yah in volume 2 on November 3, 2008.
