ANLCA’s Board To Sanction Peter Obi Over Alleged Dual Membership Of IFFA

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has said that it is going to sanction one of its members; Chief Peter Obi over his alleged membership of another parallel freight forwarding association; International Freight Forwarders Association (IFFA).

Briefing newsmen at the ANLCA national secretariat in Lagos after a meeting presided over by the new BOT Chairman Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha; the board alleged that Peter Obi is also the Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman of IFFA and accused him of intentions of destabilizing ANLCA.

Mustapha told journalists that he has it on good authority that, had Tony Iju Nwabunike not win the last presidential election of ANLCA, the association would have witnessed a mass defection of its members to IFFA.

Also speaking, Secretary of the board, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi said that Peter Obi's case has been deliberated upon by the National Executive Committee of ANLCA and was given three months to write a letter of resignation and relinquish his position in the IFFA.

He however alleged that Obi has failed to comply with this directive even as the time given has lapsed.

Oyeniyi said "Peter Obi is in IFFA, he is the chairman BOT of IFFA and he wants to destabilize ANLCA, he cannot be a member of two parallel organisations, there are some people playing gimmicks just to destabilize ANLCA, but those of us who have been in the system for longer years wants to make sure that  ANLCA moves forward"

"This matter was deliberated upon and it was agreed that IFFA is a registered parralel freight forwarding association like ANLCA, and haven established with chapters in some of the Customs commands,  in this regard,  the issue of dual membership of ANLCA and IFFA was discussed while Chief Peter Obi was specifically mentioned as having dual membership of both, therefore he was put on notice to defend himself whenever the matter comes up in the NEC"

"The NEC resolved that the matter should be referred to the board"

"Already, we have resolved to take up that area,  you cannot be a BOT of IFFA and you still want to be a member of ANLCA, we have told Obi to relinquish one for the other which he has promised"

The BOT chairman, Mustapha said that Obi had promised at one of the meetings that he would put up a letter resigning from IFFA but that he never did.

"We gave him ninety days to resign and publish same in the newspapers, but up till today he has not done it"

"We have some rules that we can follow to remove a board member if he refuses to follow the rules and regulations" he said.
