Mercedes Benz, the luxury car maker, recorded its best quarter by selling 4556 units in the January-March 2018 period growing its sales by 24.8% and crosses 16,000 units for the first in time in a fiscal by registering retails of 16,236 units, registering a growth of 22.5%.
Although, the company didn't share the numbers, they said that this is the best-ever quarterly and fiscal sales despite challenging market conditions.
The impressive performance was supported by the strong sales momentum in the sedan and SUV segment, led by advanced buying from prospective buyers ahead of price increase post budget.
The steady sales performance in Q1 2018, firmly underscores the continuous customer preference for a Mercedes-Benz vehicle in the Indian market, which is a result of a highly focused customer centric approach implemented by the brand, said the company.
Roland Folger, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said 2018 began with a positive note for the brand, though the spike in Q1 sales can be attributed to the advancement of sales due to the impending price correction, triggered primarily by the increase in basic customs duty.
He cautioned that it might be a challenge to sustain this momentum in the coming quarters and he is cautiously optimistic.
