"The new dedicated training facility at MPA Academy will provide opportunities for maritime leaders and professionals to come together to share their best practices, exchange maritime knowledge, and network with one another. MPA Academy will remain steadfast in its commitment to global maritime leadership development and continue to expand its partnerships with other centres of excellence," said MPA chief executive Andrew Tan.
The academy has been running various training programmes, mainly focusing on global maritime leadership development. In 2014, it has conducted two new flagship programmes, namely the Advanced Maritime Leaders Programme, a global maritime leadership programme targeted at the C-suite level, and the Port Management Programme for port and harbour masters, and middle managers from maritime and port authorities.
Meanwhile, the academy is expected to launch more training programmes in near term to offer a holistic and interdisciplinary curriculum in enhancing the skill sets of local and global maritime professionals. So far, the MPA Academy has trained over 1,300 individuals from senior maritime officials to industry practitioners and MPA staff.
Meanwhile, MPA also launched the 5th Maritime Public Leaders' Programme (MPLP) in partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on 19 October, with support from the Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
MPLP, to be held from 19-23 October, will provide a platform for senior officials from maritime administrations across the world to interact and exchange ideas with one another. To date, more than 70 participants from over 40 countries have been trained under the MPLP.
