The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) says it has met with the management of Melsmore Marine Nig. Ltd., towards resolving issues on workers’ welfare.
The President-General of MWUN, Mr Francis Bunu, said this in a statement by the union’s Head of Media, Mr John Kennedy Ikemefuna, on Tuesday in Lagos.
Bunu said the process of truce with the management of Melsmore had begun and was still ongoing, toward ensuring worthy workers’ welfare.
Recall that the union had issued a 21-Day ultimatum to Melsmore Marine Ltd over a protracted issue of not providing its employees Collective Bargaining Agreement and Remittance records of Pension Fund Administration as requested.
“The leadership of the union is already in positive talks with Melsmore management to finding a lasting solution to the quagmire that brought about the 21-day ultimatum.
“This is to seek mutual understanding and benefits of both organisations and most importantly, the welfare package of the union’s members, who are bonafide employees of Melsmore Marine Nig. Ltd.
“To achieving this lasting solutions, both bodies have had meetings, which is still in developmental stages, having lifted the ultimatum initially given to Melsmore Nig. Ltd.,” he said.
