The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is mourning the passing of Ferdinand Agu, former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Agency (NMA), now known as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
MWUN President General Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, described Agu as a “guru in the Maritime Sector” who transformed the industry and prioritized the welfare of his workers.
He said Agu’s commitment to excellence, diligence, and perfection has left a lasting impact on the sector, with his successors building upon his legacy.
Adeyanju, also the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), fondly recalled a recent stakeholders’ engagement where Agu was present, jokingly referring to him as the “President-General of the Association of Veterans of former Directors General of NIMASA.” The event was filled with laughter and applause, making Agu’s sudden passing a shock to all.
The Maritime Workers Union stated that it is deeply saddened by Agu’s death and prays for eternal rest and peace for his soul. The union also extends its condolences to his family, praying for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“Ferdinand Agu’s legacy in the maritime industry will be deeply missed, but his contributions will continue to inspire and guide future generations. May he rest in peace.” Adeyanju stated.
