The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) led by Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has officially reconciled with its founding President – General, Comrade Uzoije Ukaummunna, putting an end to a frosty relationship that had spanned over two decades.
The long-awaited peace pact was brokered at Ukaummunna’s residence in Lagos, on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the union’s history.
The current President – General; Adeyanju,in a press statement issued by the head of media of the MWUN; Kennedy Ikemefuna, praised Ukaummunna’s enduring leadership qualities and hailed him as a “Workaholic Founding Father” whose contributions were pivotal in the merger of the four unions in 1996.
During the event, Adeyanju expressed gratitude for the former President – General’s immense contributions, including the purchase of the Abuja property that now serves as the MWUN Annex.
The reunion event was described as colourful, with both leaders extending gratitude to the union members for embracing reconciliation.
Ukaummunna, in the presence of his wife, expressed appreciation to Adeyanju for breaking the longstanding discord between them and the union.
They urged forgiveness, emphasizing the human aspect of errors and the divine virtue of forgiveness. Adeyanju reciprocated the sentiments, offering prayers for the couple’s happiness and pledging the rehabilitation and return of Ukaummunna, along with other former Presidents – General, to the MWUN fold.
