MWUN Unveils ‘Maritime Labour Voice’ Magazine, Spotlighting Maritime Sector Workers’ Endeavors.

In a significant stride towards amplifying the narratives within the maritime sector, the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has introduced the inaugural edition of its ‘Maritime Labour Voice’ magazine.

 

President General of the union; Adewale Adeyanju while speaking at the launch of the magazine in Lagos on Wednesday noted that the publication stands as a dedicated platform to bring to highlight the tireless efforts and accomplishments of workers in the maritime industry.

 

He emphasized its role in fostering a cooperative work environment, promoting industrial harmony, and advocating for the voiceless within the sector.

 

Adeyanju further underscored Nigeria’s maritime significance, highlighting the need for responsible ocean usage to advance the Blue Economy.

 

He said the purpose of the magazine was to promote harmonious working environment that would stimulate industrial peace.

 

“This is also geared towards representing the voice of the voiceless and to project alternative voices where necessary,” he said.

 

Adeyanju expressed gratitude to the eminent guests, employers, and stakeholders for their commitment to the maritime sector.

 

Speaking at the unveiling of the occasion, the chairman of Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), who presided over the event; Princess Vicky Haastrup commended  MWUN’s commitment to sectoral growth, praising Adeyanju’s leadership and expressing support.

 

Speaking also Mrs. Sarah Bala, representing the Nigerian Ports Authority, hails the magazine’s role in enhancing understanding of maritime workers and emphasizes sustainable practices for its continuity.

 

During a speech titled “Mid-streaming Labour Rights and Climate Justice in a Blue Economy,” Comrade Hauwa Mohammed of the Nigerian Labour Congress reflects on the global economic crisis and climate change, emphasizing the shift towards the blue economy. She sees ‘Maritime Labour Voice’ as a tool for educating and partnering with institutions to research the implications of governmental policies on the Blue Economy.
