NARTO Calls For Collaboration From Stakeholders On Road Repair

Following the constant case of containers falling off trucks due to bad road, the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has called for collaborations from other stakeholders to in fixing the roads.
The association made this appeal last week in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos.
 National Chairman, Dry Cargo section of NARTO, Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa, said that since the federal government in collaboration with Dangote Group has decided to take care of Apapa Wharf road reconstruction, it will not be a bad idea if other stakeholders put heads together to take care of other areas.
“We on our own are trying our best to see how we can solve this issue of traffic gridlock and containers falling off the trucks. Since the federal government and Dangote Group are reconstructing Apapa road and the work there is much, we are now soliciting collaboration from other stakeholders to enable us complete the remaining parts of the road. It will be much if we allow the federal government and Dangote to do that alone. We at NARTO have started doing that already. I am urging all the stakeholder to see the work as their cooperate social responsibility”
He also attributed the traffic gridlock especially around the Coconut bus stop to government failing to provide alternative route for trucks to ply while the reconstruction work is going on.
“We felt that before the government will start the reconstruction work at Wharf road, they should have provided an alternative route for truckers to use but they failed to do that; like putting palliatives along Tin Can and Liverpool roads. I think that is the major reason we record so much traffic along the road”, he added.
