Navy Promises To Protect Nigeria’s Waterways

The Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade has called on officers and men of the command to tighten maritime and coastal security as part of its contributions towards ensuring the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Rear Admiral Alade said this at his second bi-annual inspection tour of some naval formations in Ondo state, southwest Nigeria.

The Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade has called on officers and men of the command to tighten maritime and coastal security as part of its contributions towards ensuring the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Rear Admiral Alade said this at his second bi-annual inspection tour of some naval formations in Ondo state, southwest Nigeria.
The second bi-annual inspection tour by the FOC, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Samual Alade took him to naval formations in Ondo state. At the Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy Igbokoda, Ilaje local government area of the state, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade inspected facilities at the base and commended the officers for regular patrol of the waterways to secure the areas.
“You must continue to do your best to stop any form of illegalities at all including oil theft.”
He also took time to inspect on going project at the permanent site of the base at Ugbo where he asserted the navy’s readiness to secure the maritime environment of Nigeria more than ever before.
“My appeal is that they should cooperate with us so that we can bring all these illegalities to a desirable end.”
He also paid homage to the traditional ruler of the area the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom Oba Frederick Akinyuntan, with the two leaders stressing the need for cooperation to rid the area of crimes such as oil theft, illegal refining activities and sea piracy.
The Western Naval Command of the Nigerian navy is responsible for the maritime security of the southwest region of the country.
