The Nigerian Navy has vowed to ensure that the activities of sea robbers and other miscreants on Nigeria’s waterways are brought to a halt.
The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Jubilee Formation, Commodore Saidu Garba, who spoke at Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on the occasion of the navy jubilee, said so far the activities of the pirates have been curtailed.
He said that the criminal activities of the pirates on the territorial waters have been reduced, adding that the Navy will not rest on its oars until the criminals were put out of business.
Garba commended the people of Ikot Abasi for all the support to the navy, such as providing accommodation for officers, assuring that the Navy will continue to carry out its constitutional duties of checking criminal activities on the waterways.
He said, “The navy acknowledges the immense contributions of the people of Ikot Abasi and your local government council in supporting our operations over the years, so we thank you.”
The Chairman, Transition Committee for Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Mr. Ubong Uquang, also commended the navy for doing a good job of protecting the territorial waters, even as he assured the Navy of the continuous support of his people.
