The new Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport has resumed. She is Dr. Edugie Abigail Abebe who in her opening speech last Friday at the ministry in Abuja stated that it is the responsibility of the staff to support the Minister towards achieving his goals.
Dr. Abebe, stated during the handing over from his predecessor, Mr. Femi Olayisade that, although the Ministry is not well funded, it should not depend on the parastatals to carry out its statutory functions. She therefore enjoined the staff of both the Ministry and the Parastatals to complement each other for the progress of the Ministry.
Earlier in his farewell remarks, the out-going Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olayisade stated that he took over the ministry at a turbulent time, especially with a parlous treasury and as a Ministry heavily involved in the 7-point Agenda of Government.
He however commended the ministry’s staff for persevering and urged them to support the new Permanent Secretary, even as he assured that the constraints in the Ministry will be taken care of this year.
Mr. Olayisade also expressed optimism that with her competence, and administrative experience, Dr. Abebe will be able to move the Ministry forward and leave an enduring legacy.
Dr. Edugie Abebe was a Permanent Secretary in the office of the Head of Service of the Federation before her posting to the Ministry of Transport. She was also at a time the Chief Executive Officer of the National Programme on Immunization.
