Nigerian Merchant Navy Congratulates Comrade Bunu Francis on Election as MWUN President General

The President of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA), Engr. Bob Joseph Yousuo, has extended his congratulations to Comrade Bunu Francis on his election as the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

In a statement issued on behalf of his executives, Chief Yousuo lauded Comrade Bunu’s leadership qualities and unwavering dedication to the welfare of maritime workers. He described Bunu as “the man the cap fits,” emphasizing that his track record and antecedents in unionism make him well-suited for the esteemed position.

Highlighting Bunu’s extensive experience in labor activism, Yousuo noted that he has served diligently at various levels within the union, from unit and district positions to branch and national leadership, where he previously held the role of Deputy President-General. With over two decades of experience championing the rights and welfare of maritime workers, Bunu’s election is seen as a testament to his commitment and leadership in the sector, he said.

As the National President of NMNOWTSSA and Chairman of ITF Africa Seafarers, as well as Chairperson of the ITF Fair Play Global Committee, Yousuo urged the new MWUN President-General to emulate his predecessor’s leadership approach by fostering collaboration and inclusiveness in addressing the challenges ahead.

“We pledge our unalloyed support to ensure he delivers on his mandate. Our existing comradeship must be maintained to hold maritime employers accountable”, Yousuo emphasized.

 

—–Bunu Emerges MWUN PG As Adeyanju Chairs BOT ——

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Friday, unanimously elected Comrade Francis Bunu Abi as the new President General of the union for the next four years.

The outline PG, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju also emerged as the pioneer Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the maritime union.

Comrade Bunu Abi who was elected at the  6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Lagos, announced the emergence of Adeyanju as the Boat chairman in his acceptance speech.

He called on the maritime stakeholders for collaboration which he said would facilitate growth and development of the sector.

He said that Comrade  Adeyanju has assumed duty as the Chairman, BOT which is in line with the constitution and that any outgoing President General of the union automatically emerges chair of the board.

The newly-elected President General expressed satisfaction over the industrial peace that existed during the electioneering process, stating that the outgoing President General’s sterling performance locally and internationally, will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Also speaking, Adeyanju called on members from the four branches of MWUN to work closely with the new PG, urging them to extend the respect accorded him to the new helmsman.

 

According to him, Bunu’s administration has what it takes to surpass past administrations considering the caliber of personalities in the new executives.

 

He affirmed that continuity should be the watchword under the new administration,while appealing for the executives from the units,  districts ,branch and national across the four branches to respect the leadership of Comrade Bunu.

While describing respect as a reciprocal, Adeyanju maintained that the new team has what it takes to surpass the existing legacies achieved so far

He described Bunu as a son, friend and brother that has the capacity to perform, even as the  appealed to the union members  to accord him that respect.

However, highpoint of the delegates’ conference was the emergence of the new national executives as declared by the Congress.

The newly- elected executives include:

 

·         Comrade Robert Eze – National  Auditor

·         Obidoma David. -National Trustee

·         Raji Abdulateef – National Trustee

·         Mukhaila Lawal – Treasurer

·         Boniface Udoh -Vice President General

·         Martina Njoku – Vice President General

·         Ibrahim Ohize – Vice President General

·         Ganiu Dosunmu – Vice President General

·         Funmi Fasan – Deputy President General

·         Taofeek Dahiru – Deputy President General

·         Abubakar Bello – Deputy President General

·         Francis Bunu – President General
