The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dayo Mobereola, has commended the significant contributions of women to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime sector as the global community celebrates International Women’s Day 2026.
In a goodwill message issued to mark the occasion, Mobereola praised the strength, professionalism and resilience demonstrated by women across the maritime industry, noting that their efforts continue to drive progress, innovation and sustainable growth within the sector.
The NIMASA boss stated that women have continued to play vital roles in various areas of the maritime ecosystem, including sea-going operations, regulatory services, technical functions and administrative responsibilities.
According to him, the contributions of women have helped strengthen the industry and enhance its capacity to deliver on national economic and safety objectives.
“I celebrate your strength, expertise and invaluable contributions to our maritime industry,” Mobereola stated in his message.
He added that the theme of this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” reflects the everyday impact of women across the maritime value chain.
“The theme Give to Gain reflects your daily impact. Through your professionalism, leadership and resilience across sea-going, regulatory, technical and administrative roles, you give excellence and our sector gains progress, innovation and sustainable growth,” he said.
Mobereola further commended the dedication and commitment of women working in the industry, describing them as key partners in advancing Nigeria’s maritime development and strengthening the country’s position within the global maritime community.
He also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting a maritime environment that supports gender inclusion and empowers women to take on leadership roles.
The NIMASA Director-General stressed that the agency will continue to support initiatives and policies that create opportunities for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the sector.
“I remain committed to a maritime industry where every woman is empowered to lead and thrive,” he added.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally to recognise the achievements of women while drawing attention to the challenges they face and the need for greater gender equity across social, economic and professional spheres.
The 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” emphasises the importance of investing in women through education, mentorship and resources, with the understanding that empowering women ultimately strengthens economies, communities and workplaces.
