The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Tuesday issued a confirmation letter to a frontline indigenous terminal operator, Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, as an Essential Service Provider (ESP) to NPA.
The confirmation was conveyed in a letter titled, "CONFIRMATION OF MESSRS PORT & CARGO HANDLING SERVICES LTD AS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE PROVIDER TO THE NIGERIAN PORTS AUTHORITY-TINCAN ISLAND PORTS COMPLEX, APAPA" signed by the Tin Can Island Port Manager, A.G Umar, which was dated 31st March 2020, a copy of which was sighted by Shipping Position Daily.
According to Umar, he stated that the services of the terminal operator are required to keep the operations in the ports ongoing.
The letter reads in parts, "Further to the Presidential directive that the Seaports remain operational during the 14days initial lockdown, the services of the above mentioned terminal operator is required to keep the operations in the ports going"
"Consequently, approval is hereby granted to the staff of the company and their third party contractors with valid company ID cards to access the Tin Can Island Ports Complex, Apapa.
