NSC Boss Reinstates Commitment To Protect, Promote Interest Of Freight Forwarders In Maritime Sector

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Hon. Emmanuel Jime, has said the agency would promote and protect the interest of freight forwarders in the maritime sector.

Hon. .Jime gave the assurance when the freight forwarders paid a familiarization visit to the CEO at the agency’s Headquarters in Lagos on Wednesday.
“Let me start by appreciating you all for finding time out of your respective busy schedules to visit Nigerian Shippers ‘Council.

“As Port Economic Regulator”, he said “NSC cannot achieve anything without the support of stakeholders such as you, in the maritime sector”.

The NSC boss stressed the need for partnership with between NSC and freight forwarders to aid the development of the nation’s maritime industry.

He expressed the Council’s readiness to create a level play field for the freight forwarders at the nation’s seaports.

He called on the freight forwarders to desist from unethical practices in their operations at the nation’s
ports. He also encouraged them to embrace professionalism.

The National Vice President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Kayode Farinto, who spoke at the meeting, commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Port Standing Task Team for the pivotal role they have played by in ensuring strict compliance with the Nigerian Port Process Manual (NPPM).

According to him, the introduction of NPPM has begun to address anomalies at the nation’s ports.

Also speaking, the President, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Chief Increase Uche, said the freight forwarding Associations are solidly behind the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council.

He called on the CEO to sustain the robust working relationship NSC had with NAGAFF under his predecessor.
