The Lagos State commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Shem Obafaiye, said yesterday that 16,250 litres of petroleum products had been recovered from suspected pipeline vandals in FESTAC town.
Obafaiye made the disclosure while parading the products before journalists in his office in Alausa, Ikeja.
He explained that the command got intelligence reports that suspected NNPC pipeline vandals were syphoning fuel into various jerrycans at 7th Avenue, Festac Town.

He explained that the command got intelligence reports that suspected NNPC pipeline vandals were syphoning fuel into various jerrycans at 7th Avenue, Festac Town.
“I went there with my men to arrest the suspects, but on sighting us, they opened fire on us and we retaliated.
“We exchanged fire for some minutes before they jumped into the water, leaving the products.
“We recovered 150 jerry cans of 50 litres each, and 350 jerry cans of 25 litres each. The products were transferred to the office early this morning from the scene.
“The products would be handed over to officials of the NNPC, “ Obafaiye said.
He said that most of the activities of the vandals were still under investigation, while others were pending in court.
