Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Dr Boniface Aniebonam has declared that there is no big deal in the recent dissolution of the association’s national executive committee.
Aniebonam spoke last week on the sidelines of the visit of officials from the Lagos state office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
According to him, asking why the committee was dissolved is like asking the Comptroller General of Customs why he should transfer some officers.
"Talking about the dissolving the NECOM of NAGAFF is like asking why CGC why he transferred some officers”.
The NAGAFF founder explained that since members of the association’s NECOM were not elected, they were not in a position to contest their removal.
He said: “They (NECOM members) were not elected and can be dissolved at any time. The chapter chairmen who were elected still have their four years which will end next year to complete".
On the issue of controversial Practitioner Operations Fees (POF) payable by freight forwarders, he said, it remained a directive of the Federal Government that must be obeyed. He disclosed that some practitioners are already paying the fees.
"I think what is remaining now is to package the POF collection and you know it’s for government. The directive of the government of that is straight and it has started but the fact is that some people have approached the court because of that, but it doesn't make sense because it will not stop the government policy. The fact is that some are paying while some are not we have directed our members to go and pay"
