The Management of Ports & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, has paid all 74 aged, disengaged dockworkers their wages and benefits.

Additionally, the benefits for 10 deceased dockworkers were paid to their next of kin, making a total of 84 beneficiaries.

The payment exercise according to a press statement signed by the head of media at the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN); Kennedy Ikemefuna, was conducted under the supervision of Comrade Bello Abubakir, who represented the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Com. Adewale Adeyanju and Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President of the Dockworkers Branch of the MWUN, and other union officials.

Adeyanju noted that since the terminal’s inception, this is the first time PTML has fully-applied the minimum salary standard, surpassing what was recommended in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the payment of retiring dockworkers. He commended PTML’s action and urged other terminals to emulate this practice.

Adeyanju, praised the PTML management for their commendable step in providing for the aged retirees and the families of the deceased dockworkers, who received the entitlements of their departed loved ones.
