Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies.

This is in maintaining security and ensuring the safety and prosperity of residents in the state.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Monday in Ikeja during a courtesy visit by Rear Adm. Micheal Oamen, the new Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command.

The governor emphasised the need for continued collaboration and support to ensure the state’s safety and prosperity.

He noted that Lagos remains safe and peaceful due to the joint effort between the state government and security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Navy.

Sanwo-Olu expressed his appreciation for the Nigerian Navy’s presence in the state, referring to Lagos as the “darling of the Nigerian Navy”.

He acknowledged the Navy Town as one of the largest formations in terms of accommodation and facilities.

The governor also highlighted the state government’s collaborative efforts to maintain the area’s upkeep.

He further commended the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in curbing pipeline vandalism and kidnapping incidents in the state’s waterways, acknowledging their critical role in maintaining security in Lagos.

“We see your role as not only critical, but also complementary to the little that we are also doing,” he said.

The governor stressed the importance of continued collaboration and information sharing between security agencies.

He also expressed appreciation for the Nigerian Navy’s work on the waterways, particularly the hydrographic ship and NNS Beecroft.

Sanwo-Olu assured the Navy of the state government’s continued support and highlighted the importance of the Lagos Security Trust Fund, which has been a successful model for over 10 years.

Oamen expressed appreciation for the Lagos State Government’s support to the Nigerian Navy, particularly in terms of logistics and provision of boats to the main operational base, NNS Beecroft.

He assured the governor that the Navy would continue to work closely with the state government to ensure the safety of the waterways and promote economic activities.

Oamen also commended the state government for its efforts in ensuring the security of life and property.

According to him, Lagos State is a pacesetter in security architecture and coordination.

He praised the Security Trust Fund, saying it had provided significant resources to support all security agencies in the state.

The Rear Admiral also briefed the governor on the Nigerian Navy’s contemporary security operations in Lagos.

He said this included the Joint Task Force Operation Awase, which was set up to tackle pipeline vandalism.

According to him, the operation has been successful in reducing the incidence of vandalism to the barest minimum.

He urged the governor to help alleviate the problem of accommodation by facilitating landed properties.
