The Nigerian Shippers' Council is embarking on a multi- agency collaboration involving Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control( NAFDAC) and the Saki West Local Government on the designation of Okerete Border Post as a Customs Border by the Federal Government.
This was disclosed during a recent courtesy visit of the Zonal Coordinator (South West) of the Nigerian Shippers' Council; Mr. Olurotimi Anifowose to the Customs Area Controller, Oyo/ Osun Command, Comptroller Udo-Aka, E.A.
According to Zonal Coordinator, the need for this collaboration has become necessary due to the volume of trading activities that take place at the border town of Okerete and the revenue that would accrue to the Federal Government as soon as it is designated officially.
Corroborating the need to designate the border town, the CAC, Oyo/Osun Area Command; Compt. Udo-Aka in his remarks disclosed that the Nigeria Customs Service had written several letters to the successive Ministers of Finance its yet to receive a response. " There is need to erect a border post in that place so as to ensure that the country benefits from the trading activities at the place", he stressed.
