The Nigerian Shippers Council has raised alarm over the use of its Chief Executive’s profile on Facebook by scammers to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
In a Facebook disclaimer issues on Monday, the Council urged the public not to fall prey to the antics.
“It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous persons are passing themselves off as representing or being affiliated with Shippers Council.
“They have been appropriating parts of our brand identity, as well as impersonating and taking on the photos and names of the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with the intent to defraud people via Facebook by promising to award contracts”, the statement reads in part”.
It warned that, “This user with the above details named “Emmanuel Lyambee Jime” and currently 301 friends is a FRAUD”.
The Council added that: “For the avoidance of doubt, Shippers Council does not award contract online or onsite, neither does the ES/CEO, Emmanuel Jime. We do not solicit for nor accept money from anyone for investments, contracts or to participate in trading activities of any kind”.
“We therefore denounce this fraudulent and unscrupulous impersonation and hereby alert the general public to this urgent situation. Investigation for these cases is already underway. Should you be contacted by these suspicious entities, please do not engage in any transaction with them, anyone who engages, does so at their own risk”.
