Unhappy with the plight of vehicle importers in the country, the Nigerian Shippers Council has urged automobile dealers to report any challenge encountered in the process of vehicles clearance from the seaports as the agency have assured a level playing field for importers.

Executive Secretary, of the council, Barrister Hassan Bello stated this in Lagos recently, during a sensitization programme organized by the Compliant, Enforcement and Monitoring unit of the council.

Bello who was represented by Assistant Director, of the unit, Mrs. Celina Ifeora, noted that the Council was established to protect the interest of shippers but warned operators to embrace genuine and honest declaration of their imports.

He also called on the operators to report cases of arbitrary charges during clearing of vehicles, noting that the enlightenment programme was aimed to understand the plight of importers who specialised in vehicles importation.

Speaking during the visit, he said that the council is determined to assist car dealers who have issues with clearing of such consignments, pointing out that.

"Every car dealer has every right to report issues bothering on shipment to the council for proper clarity. We want to know more about how you are being short-changed by the customs and how the government policies have affected your businesses "he said.

Also speaking the Vice-Chairman of Promise Park, one of the parks at Berger Automobile Market, stressed the need for the agency to organize a forum that would involve the entire car dealers at the Berger automobile market.

According to him, the automobile is the biggest in Africa saying that the enlightenment programme would further expose car dealers on shipping.

He also noted that the automobile market has 26 units headed by a president general hence the sensitization should be elaborate in order to spread the message to all the unit leaders for downward effective communication.
