SIFAX Group, one of the fastest growing multinational corporations with diverse interests in maritime, aviation, haulage & logistics, oil & gas and hospitality, has backed the establishment of the African Maritime Journalists Association (AMJA).
In a congratulatory message sent to the association’s new executive team led by Mr. Sesan Onileimo, Publisher of Shipping Position Daily newspaper, the Group Executive Vice Chairman, SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, noted that the continent-wide media association should champion the cause of partnership among stakeholders in the industry.
Dr Afolabi said: “The formation of the association couldn’t have come at a better time. The maritime industry in Africa and its players are at a period where they need to explore the strength that comes from partnership and cooperation in order to fulfill the potentials of the industry and improve the continent’s contributions to the global trade.
“I believe this partnership has started with this new association and it is our sincere belief that the association will further advance the interests of the industry and all its stakeholders. As an organization, SIFAX Group will continue to support the media and its practitioners because of the critical developmental roles they play in the society. In view of this, please note that we would be willing to partner with the association in a mutually beneficial relationship for the ultimate upliftment of the continent’s maritime industry.”
Afolabi, who also hailed the quality of the new executive members, who are drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya, challenged the new association and its members to come up with various intervention ideas that could further improve the fortune of the industry. This way, Afolabi said, the impact of the association would be quickly felt.
