A 34-year-old truck driver;Kamaru Raman, was on Thursday last week arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly injuring three women and driving without license.
Raman is facing a five-count charge bordering on reckless driving, driving without license, damaging pavement and causing accident.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 4, 2019 at about 8am along Ijesha Expressway, Festac Town, Lagos.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of an Iveco truck with registration number KJA 108 XS drove same vehicle in a reckless manner,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant hit one Kemi Sani, Ekaette Sampson and one other person when they were standing on the pavement at Ijesha Expressway while waiting to board a vehicle. They sustained injury and the defendant also damaged the pavement.
Ekpo added that the defendant drove same vehicle on public highway without a driver’s license.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 19, 24, 7(1) Cap 548 and 3 of the Road Transport Law of Lagos State 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties must furnish the court with six months bank statement and one of the sureties must be an Imam.
