Korean General Cargo Ship Sank North Of Jeju, 8 Crew Rescued
Korean general cargo ship in the morning Jan 29 suffered massive water ingress in fore cargo hold area some 4 nm southwest of Cheongsando island, Wando County, southern Korea, while en route from Jeju to Nokdong Port. 8 crew were rescued by Wando Maritime Rescue and Coast Guard, the ship sank at 0832 Seoul time, shortly after the crew were rescued. Understood it’s general cargo ship SAMSUNG NO.1 (IMO 8405945, dwt 4250, built 1984, flag Korea), but ship’s ID isn’t yet confirmed.
Korean Trawler On Fire, 34 Crew Evacuated, Safe, Philippines
Trawler NO96 OYANG caught fire early in the morning Jan 26 in Philippines sea E of Manila, 34 crew had to abandon the ship and went into life rafts. Later they were picked up by nearby vessels, to be transferred and disembarked at Cebu City by PCG ship. No injuries reported, condition and status of trawler unknown, probably burning out.
Mega Container Ship Mass Containers Loss, North Pacific
. Many drifted containers reported seen in North Pacific on Jan 27, understood lost by mega container ship, which is en route from USA to China. The ship it seems, is trying to avoid more losses and damages by changing course, according to her track. Awaiting ship’s ID confirmation and updates.
Cargo Ship Collided With Ferry, Japan
General cargo ship GUO MAO 1 collided with berthed ferry TOKIWA MARU at 1520 Tokyo Jan 28 in Naoetsu Port, Niigata, Honshu, Japan sea, while maneuvering in port basin. GUO MAO 1 arrived at Naoetsu from Busan with cargo of snow-melting agent, TOKIWA MARU is undergoing maintenance repairs. Both ship sustained damages: GUO MAO 1 suffered mostly hull dents; TOKIWA MARU suffered hull dents and cracks.
