The Western Ports Authority Police Command has arrested a clearing agent; Biodun Ojo, for attempting to smuggle small arms and light weapons into the country. The arrest took place on Tuesday, at the Action Free Trade Terminal in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Isaac Hundeyin, officers of the Roro Port Division received credible intelligence at about 6:15 p.m. while stevedores were offloading an overtime container.

He disclosed that, Ojo was caught attempting to remove and conceal firearms and ammunition from the container by throwing them into a septic tank.

Recovered items included a Remington Express rifle, a Ruger Impact .22-caliber rifle, an English pistol, 42 live cartridges, one round of 9mm ammunition, and 10 rounds of 9.9mm ammunition.

Police Commissioner, Western Ports Authority; Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba assured that the Command remains committed to preventing the illegal importation of arms. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing to track down the importer and other accomplices.

The Commissioner urged port users, unions, and stakeholders to provide credible intelligence to ensure national security, prevent trade fraud, and promote a conducive business environment.
