Firstly, let me congratulate Com. Adewale Adeyanju. I believe he should consolidate on what he has done in his first term; workers welfare should be the paramount. In view of the development worldwide, challenges affecting dockworkers, I believe he should try to smoothen that. There are lots of gaps between the concessionaires and dock workers, there are many terminals where stevedores are not engaged, the issue of payoff for onboard security has taken time. I believe that matter should have been resolved, he should fight so that the people should be paid.
Capt Adewale Ishola
I think training should be the paramount thing for him, let him train the workers so that they can handle any type of ship that comes to Nigerian port, so for me I believe training and re-training should be his focus for his second term in office.
John Okpono (Merchant Navy)
I advise that he keeps up the good work, and carry all the elected members along as he has been doing, I expect that he improves on his first tenure by way of ensuring that all the branches are treated equally, they should be given fair treatment. He should also continue to build on the peace and harmony we are experiencing in the maritime sector.
Ayodeji Hammed (Merchant Navy)
Let him focus more on the plight of the seafarers; let him engage NIMASA and ensure that some of our seafarers are engaged. He should also discourage discrimination of seafarers, let him work together with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that seafarers are treated fairly and equally.
Capt Alfred Oniye
Let him take care of the seafarers under him, the welfare of the seafarers is paramount, because the seafarers under him are lamenting, they are suffering. So the only agenda I can set for him is to advise him to take care of the seafarers under him, because they are lamenting seriously.
Abdullahi Inuwa (Member COMTUA)
We would advise that he, keeps up the good work he has started, let him continue with the pace he has set in the industry, especially the peace and harmony that we have seen among the union members themselves. He is someone who has a listening ear and I believe that’s why the union allowed him to go for a second term, he should also look into the welfare of the workers and ensure that they are treated fairly.
Stanly Ezenga (Freight Forwarder)
I think he has been able to establish peace and tranquility in the maritime industry; throughout his tenure all the industry issues were resolved amicably. Therefore, the area he should focus now is the issue of pilfering in the terminal, although we know the era of wharf rats are gone, but of late it has resurfaced in some of the terminals, so he should do something as regards this and make sure whoever is caught doing so, pays for it dearly.
