Zone A Unit Of Customs Seizes 268 Assorted Contraband

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service in Ikeja  has said that it seized 268 assorted contraband worth about N95 million in August.
Public Relations Officer of the zone, Mr Uche Ejesieme made the report available to newsmen in Lagos.
The FOU said that duty payable on the seized goods were about N17. 6 million.
The FOU said that the unit seized 393 assorted contraband valued at N67. 6 million with payable duty of about N13. 2 million in the corresponding period in 2012..

According to him,the Unit said that it arrested 34 and 21 suspects in August 2012 and August 2013, respectively.
'' The items seized include smuggled frozen poultry products, rice from the border, fairly used cloths, used tyres, used shoes and groundnut oil," it said.
The Unit gave the assurance that the command would continue to live up to its statutory responsibility and had fine-tuned operational methods that would help it to achieve better results.
It called on the members of the public to give reliable information that would help track smugglers.
