The Police have arraigned a man; Amobi Patrick before an Apapa magistrate court sitting in Ajegunle, Lagos for allegedly stealing a telephone valued at N20, 000.

The suspect was said to have stolen one Cool Pad Handset valued at N20, 000 and N24, 550, from one Mr. Gbenga Onanuga of No 8, Muyibi street, Olodi Apapa in Apapa, who also identified  himself as a clearing agent.

According to the prosecutor; Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha the defendant committed the offence on May 21, 2018 at about 3:45pm.

Ogbongha told Magistrate O.S Abioye that, “the defendant stole one cool pad handset valued N20,000 and cash of N24,550 property of one Gbenga Onanuga.”

Ogbongha told the court that, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge. While ruling on the bail application, Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The defence counsel asked the court to grant his client bail, arguing that it was a bail able offence, but the prosecutor argued against granting the bail and reminded the Magistrate that the defendant is an unrepentant criminal having been remanded in prison before and still went back to crime.

He pleaded with the court that the bail condition should be strident.

In his ruling, the Magistrate who adjourned the case till 13th June 2018 for mention, also  granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate also said that the two sureties must provide evidence of employment with three years evidence of tax payment.
