The Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria (POTEMAN) says it will organise a talent hunt competition programme for future maritime practitioners this month.
The maritime academy also said that the move is to equip young practitioners who will eventually man the nation’s ports and terminal, with adequate knowledge and innovation that guarantee responsiveness to address challenge faced in the maritime sector.
Some of the topics which will be treated at the programme include: improving cargo throughput in Nigeria seaports, port revenue maximisation.
Others are: Analysis of container weighing and its implications for Nigeria maritime trade, minimising transport costs and improving connectivity of West and Central Africa: A panacea for the economy diversity facilitation and integration of the West and Central Africa sub region: strategies to reduce cost of transportation and economy.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily, in Lagos recently, Director, Finance and Administration, POTEMAN, Mr. Tunji Obagbo said that the objective of the competition is to bring out the ultimate development of ports and terminals practice in all ramifications.
Obagbo said the competition is to honour individuals for the maritime sector and to bring out the culture of professionalism and maritime way of writing to practitioners.
He said the age limit for participants is between 12 to 19 years and POTEMAN is positioning to catch them young.
Speaking on the guidelines for the write up, he mentioned that all articles must have abstract which will summarise the write up and that the scope of the article must be original and tailored towards the Nigerian environment.
Obagbo stressed that the articles to be written in the competition should be between 15 to 20 pages on A4 papers, typewritten in double ink spacing through computer.
"All biographical references are to be submitted to the registrar and must be written in English language”, he added.
