The Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Dr. Dayo Mobereola has pledged to usher in a new era for Nigeria’s maritime sector during the inaugural stakeholders/ interactive session, which held on Thursday in Lagos.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Mobereola articulated a vision of inclusive governance, stressing the imperative of collective action to propel the sector forward.

Mobereola further emphasized the need for a unified approach. Stating: “Today, it means we are going to go back and develop objectives, goals, and strategies. And we are all going to do it together,” he declared.

With a clear focus on aligning with national objectives, particularly the vision of the President and the Minister for a thriving marine and blue economy, Mobereola underscored the importance of listening to all stakeholders. “My purpose here for this forum is to come and listen,” he affirmed, assuring attendees that their voices would shape the future trajectory of the sector.

The DG while acknowledging the wealth of insights and suggestions put forth during the session, pledged to incorporate them into the forthcoming four-year plan. From the automation of the ship registry to gender inclusion initiatives, he vowed swift action and accountability.

“Every aspect, every challenge, and every solution provided will be looked at, considered, and put into a strategy,” he assured, highlighting the commitment to a sustainable and inclusive roadmap.

Furthermore, Mobereola emphasized the importance of ongoing engagement, promising sectional meetings to delve deeper into specific issues raised.

“Knowledge- sharing cannot be wasted,” he stressed, underscoring the value of collaboration in crafting a resilient maritime strategy that garners acceptance from both regulators and practitioners alike.

In his closing remarks,  Mobereola reiterated the aspiration for Nigeria to emerge as a global maritime powerhouse, stressing the sentiment of building a sector that commands international recognition. “We want to develop a good and diversified maritime” he said.
