A coalition of four registered freight forwarding association; Concerned Registered Freight Forwarding Association (CRFFA) has called on the Ministry of Transport to either de-register or suspend the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) over the recent molestation and harassment on officers of Council for the Regulation Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) on official duty assignment at the Seme border.
A coalition of four registered freight forwarding association; Concerned Registered Freight Forwarding Association (CRFFA) has called on the Ministry of Transport to either de-register or suspend the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) over the recent molestation and harassment on officers of Council for the Regulation Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) on official duty assignment at the Seme border.
The CRFFA comprises of National Association of Government Apprpoved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), Nigerian Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC) and Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN).
The latest letter which comes barely one week after a meeting was called by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Transport, was signed presidents of the four associations, namely: Chief Eugene Nweke (NAGAFF), Chief Festus Ejiofor (NCMDLCA), Chief CAT Agubamah (NAFFAC) and Dr Frank Ukor (AREFFN).It was dated June 15, 2015.
The group in what it tagged:"letter of appreciation and ancillary matters”, and which was addressed to the Permanent Secretary, argued that ANLCA should be made to pay for the damaged vehicle of the Council and also pick up the hospital bills of officials of CRFFN who were wounded during the mayhem.
The group insisted that the alleged gross misconduct by ANLCA members in Seme on CRFFN staff sends a negative signal to the international community
Justifying its position on ANLCA, it said: "This recommendation is predicated on the fact that they have been given a fair hearing in this matter and they seem to have given no credible reason for this their action.”
"We humbly submit that in view of the weight of ANLCA's action, that they be either de-registered, suspended or strongly warned to conform with the set rules, laws and code of practice as enshrined in the CRFFN Act No. 16 2007" and all other laws there-from.
“If suspension is the option you will choose, they should be so suspended until such a time that they purge themselves of further malfeasances."
“They should be made to pay for the damaged vehicle of the Council and to pick up the hospital bills of all those who were wounded during this mayhem.”
"They should also be made to tender an apology by way of a letter to the CRFFN and those that were injured This recommendation is predicated on the fact that they have been given a fair hearing in this matter and they seem to have given no credible reason for this their action."
“We also recommend that this matter be referred to the Inspector General of Police for proper investigations and possible prosecution of those responsible for this criminal act."
The group further said if any ANLCA is not duly punished, a future occurrence may erupt and such act sends a wrong signal to the international community.
