Adeniyi’s Tenure Extension Will Further Boost Volleyball Development ….NVBF

Adamu Tanimu, the Second Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF),says the six-month tenure extension granted to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, will further accelerate the growth and development of volleyball in Nigeria.

Tanimu made the remark while speaking with newsmen on Monday at the ongoing 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League Phase one at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the extension, describing the decision as a welcome development for the volleyball community and the country’s sports sector.

According to him, Adeniyi has played a significant role in the advancement of volleyball through sustained investment in athletes, sponsorship of major competitions and support for grassroots development.

“He is not only transforming the Nigeria Customs Service but has also become one of the strongest pillars supporting volleyball in Nigeria,” he said.

The NVBF official described Adeniyi as a visionary administrator who had successfully combined the responsibilities of leading the NCS with a strong commitment to sports development.

He said that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the NCS had emerged as one of the country’s foremost promoters of volleyball through the successful organisation of the CGC Volleyball Premier League and other developmental initiatives.

He expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s continued stay in office until February 2027 would consolidate existing gains and create more opportunities for youth empowerment, talent discovery and sports sponsorship.

“This is something that makes us very happy. It is like seeing someone who has been feeding you being elevated; you know that even more good things are coming,” he said.

He added that the Customs Comptroller-General’s support extended beyond volleyball.

“ Adeniyi  had consistently championed the development of various sports across the country while promoting youth engagement, national unity and social development.

Tanimu also highlighted the economic benefits of sporting competitions organised by the NCS, saying they generated business opportunities for vendors, service providers and host communities,” he said.

According to him, tournaments such as the CGC Volleyball Premier League stimulate economic activities, increase revenue generation and empower women and young entrepreneurs.

He  maintained that the sustained backing of the NCS had contributed to raising the standard of volleyball competitions and strengthening the country’s position on the African volleyball scene,” he said.

NAN reports that Tinubu recently approved a final six-month tenure extension for Adeniyi to enable him complete key reforms within the NCS, including the implementation of the National Single Window project, while ensuring a seamless leadership transition.
