Car imports bill in Algeria fell to USD306.77 million over the two first months of 2016, against USD730 million during the same period in 2015, that is, a drop by about 58%, the Customs said penultimate Sunday.
The imported volume declined by 63% with 21,380 cars imported in January and February 2016, against 57,696 units in the first two months of 2015, according to the figures of the Customs’ National Statistics Centre.
Car dealers who hold the biggest national market shares had imports decrease between 41% and 98% in value, and between 23% and 99% in volume.
The biggest decline was recorded among the dealers of Asian and German cars.
French car imports fell 40% to 57% in value and volume.
Car imports for 2016 has been set at 152,000 units, car dealers, however, are still awaiting the delivery of import licences.
Car imports quota will be granted to those dealers according to their usual share in the total annual car imports.
