Gruppo Grendi has opened a new container terminal in Sardinia, Italy. Located in Port of Cagliari, the terminal had received its first vessel on 9th July itself but it’s now that the port operator has officially announced its opening. Named, Mediterranean Intermodal Terminal Operator (MITO) of Sardinia, the new terminal will offer customers a 350m long quay with 86,000 sqm yard in the Port of Cagliari. Loading and unloading operations will be relying upon 2 quay cranes which are expected to become completely functional by September 2021.

Antonio Mussi, Managing Director of Grendi Trasporti Marittimi said that with the start of commercial operations at their new international terminal, the company aims to establish grounds for setting up an efficient container transport network. This network would support the restart of the port and industrial sector of Sardinia. Looking committed to the growth of Sardinia, Mr. Mussi added that the new terminal will be serving international container volume destined for and from Sardinia and at the same time it will enlarge the business scope related to the transshipment operations.
