Job seekers who have applied and written examinations for employment in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have again pleaded with the Service to conclude the recruitment process. Or be bold enough to confirm if the service has discreetly engaged some of the applicants.
Recall that the NCS had on April 17, 2019 opened its portal for recruitment of 3,200 officers and men into the Service. It later confirmed that, as at the time the portal was closed in May 2019, a total of 524,315 applicants had successfully completed their application process.
However, about 21 months after the service opened its portal for recruitment, the service is yet to complete the recruitment.
Apparently pissed off by the delay, some job seekers lampooned the service on twitter last week shortly after it posted the revenue generated for year 2020.
The job seekers who were unconcerned about the revenue generated hit hard on the service for failing to fulfill the promise to recruit Nigerian youths for the available positions since 2019.
A tweeter user with the name “Imaji Yahaya wrote: “Yet they can’t complete a simple recruitment exercise initiated in 2019”.
Another Abah Sunday commented: “16th of this month will make it a year we went for Customs recruitment examination without any result, so I want to humbly implore the NCS to announce to the public its stand on the recruitment”.
Also a tweeter user with the name Aniefiok S Okon wrote: “Well done but when is the list of the last recruitment exams coming out? Or has it been done our normal Nigeria way? (Finished training when the list is not out “Man knows man”)!
Owoh Banky also wrote, “what is stopping the recruitment process, we are tired of been expectant”
Com Babatunde SA asked: “When are you going to release the last exam we did throughout the country for recruitment, I did my own exam here in University of Ilorin since last year”.
In a telephone chat with our correspondent the National Public Relation Officer of the service; Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah informed that the service is however optimistic that the recruitment process will be completed before the end of first quarter 2021.
He said, “we hope that the recruitment process will be completed before the end of first quarter, we wanted it to come out before the end of last year, but due to the COVID 19, the recruitment is not in my hand, I pray we can do it, but can we even do it now when the Federal government is closing down schools, is that when we want to gather Nigerians to gather in one place now, people are criticizing the NIN registration, if we call people now, you know how many thousands that will full there? So that’s the situation right now”, he said.
