A total of 284,385 metric tonnes of polished wheat has been confirmed to have been imported into the country through the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Ports in April,a clear indication of a slightly drop in the importation of the commodity, when the figure of 291,125 metric tonnes that was imported in March is considered.
A total of nine vessels came into the two ports with the aforementioned metric tonnes of the commodity last month.

According to the statistics made available to Shipping Position Daily by the Nigerian Ports Authority, Apapa Bulk Terminals Limited recorded the highest volume of importation of the commodity with 182,520 metric tonnes which came in aboard four vessels.
On the 22nd of April MV.Desert Eagle came in with 56,000 metric tonnes of wheat, while another vessel called Desert Rhapsody came in with 49,115 mt of the commodity on the 29th, Desert Unity berthed at the terminal on the 7th with 47,000mt, while Desert Serenity came in on the 16th of April with 32,405mt
Josep Dam however recorded 75,455 metric tonnes of wheat in the month of April, represnting a slight drop from what came into the terminal in March which was 77,350 metric tonnes. The terminal also handled four vessels last month with vessels like New Legend Pearl coming in with 10,000mt on the 29th, while Genco Charger arrived at Josep Dam on the 26th with a total of 28,000 tonnages of the commodity.
Others that berthed at the terminal are Genco Pioneer which came in with 20,500mt on the 5th of last month while Port Kenny arrived with 16,955 metric tonnes.
Greenview Development Nigeria Limited also known as [GDNL] recorded 26,410mt of the said products aboard a vessel called Nan Hai which berthed at the Lagos Port on the 28th of April.
The Dangote terminal recorded a slight increase in volume as against what was recorded in March with was 25,700 tonnages of wheat.
It would be recalled the federal Government of the Country recently said that plans were ongoing to stop the importation of polished wheat into the country by 2015 in order to encourage local manufacturers and also boost agriculture in the country.
