Between NUPENG and FG: The Beat Goes On

The last may not have been heard about accusations, counter accusations and exchange of words that have been going on for the past two weeks between the Federal Government and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) owing to the later’s threat to hold the country to ransom by embarking on a nationwide strike in solidarity with petroleum marketers.

The latest of the blame trading is the statement issued last week by NUPENG through its Acting General Secretary, Mr. Isaac Aberare that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party is the greatest problem that the country is having and that the union has never sabotaged the government as it is being painted by the government.

Shipping Position Daily had reported exclusively last week how the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala had accused the union of being used by some corrupt marketers who have been indicted of fraud to cause diversion and commotion in the country through the instrumentality of strike.

Even though the union had shifted grounds on its position to embark on a nationwide strike, it has however insisted that the PDP lacked the morals to querry it over its decision to embark on a solidarity strike action with the petroleum marketers.

In the recent statement, the NUPENG’s  Acting General Secretary alleged that the PDP had drawn Nigeria back in her national development and could not be taken seriously on its outburst on the union.

“The union has never sabotaged the efforts of the Federal Government, especially when it borders on transparency and accountability in the oil and gas sector”

“We have always been in the forefront in the fight against many obnoxious policies of the government” NUPENG said.
