Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has urged residents of Jibia border community in Katsina State to be vigilant and monitor activities of people in the area.

COMPT. CHEDI WADA

The Customs Area Comptroller in Katsina State, Alhaji Wada Chedi, gave the charge on Monday during the formal re-opening of the Jibia border.

He said it was imperative for the people to be security conscious and mindful of bad elements hibernating the border to perpetrate evil activities against the country.

“Jibia border, is one the four borders that the Federal Government directed its reopening.

“The essence is to promote commerce and trade among the African countries.

“We must therefore, follow due process in exporting and importing goods into the country through the land borders.

“We must not do anything that will jeopardise peace and security of the country,” he said.

He said the ban imposed on the importation of certain goods and products was still in force, adding that people were allowed to import goods that were not banned through the right channels.

Chedi said that the Jibia border was among the 12 borders reopened by the Federal Government in view of its social and economic importance.

In his remarks, Alhaji Bashir Maitan, Chairman, Jibia Local Government Council, lauded the gesture, and pledged to collaborate with security agencies to enhance security in the border community.
