In order to satisfy the yearning of its students about the maritime industry and make them to have a better understanding of terminal operations at the seaports, Stars Maritime Academy has announced a one day visit of its student to the Terminal ‘C’ of the Lagos Port Complex [LPC] otherwise known as ENL terminal.
The Head of Department, Shipping Management of the academy, Mr. Chris Sadoh disclosed this to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos Last week.
In order to satisfy the yearning of its students about the maritime industry and make them to have a better understanding of terminal operations at the seaports, Stars Maritime Academy has announced a one day visit of its student to the Terminal ‘C’ of the Lagos Port Complex [LPC] otherwise known as ENL terminal.
The Head of Department, Shipping Management of the academy, Mr. Chris Sadoh disclosed this to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos Last week.
Sadoh explained that the idea of the excursion is to enable students of the maritime institute to know more about what is obtainable outside the classroom and understand what port operations entail.
He said that it is part of the institute’s mandate to take students out of classroom engagement to have a feel of the technicalities in their chosen endeavours which will be an added advantage to them.
He disclosed that about 50 students from the school may likely make it to the terminal for the exercise.
The HOD revealed that the excursion is expected to come up on the 15th of November, even as he stressed that the visit is specially designed for students under the department of shipping management of the school.
It is of importance that students undergoing professional studies like ours should be taken out for site-seeing, to have a practical knowledge of what they are being taught in the classroom because most of the things that goes on in the classroom are what is obtainable outside there in the society.’’
‘’Most especially, when it has to do with maritime education which is professionally inclined, once in a while, the students we teaching should be taken to the seaport terminals to have a fill of what they are being taught in the class, hence the excursion is necessary’’.
‘’We are using this medium so that our student can ask questions about the port and terminal operation from ENL officials, because they are professionals in the field’’.
He explained that the last visit to Tin Can Island Container Terminal [TICT] gave birth to the visit to ENL terminal as both terminals have different cargo handling equipment to discharge various goods from the vessels, according to him; this will be educative to the students.
